Important Cabinet Meeting: On Wednesday, a crucial Cabinet meeting is slated to take place, where several significant decisions related to farmers may be discussed. According to sources, discussions in the Cabinet meeting could revolve around increasing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for six Rabi crops, including wheat and lentils. Furthermore, proposals to raise MSP for Rabi crops by 2% to 7% are also likely to be on the table. The proposal to raise the MSP for wheat and lentils seems to be at the forefront.
Rabi crops are usually sown from October to December, with cooler temperatures during the sowing period. However, as these crops ripen, a bit of warmth is required. During this season, crops such as wheat, barley, potatoes, chickpeas, lentils, flaxseeds, peas, and mustard are sown. It’s expected that the MSP for wheat could potentially reach 2300 rupees, which is a significant increase from the current 2125 rupees. There might be an increase of up to 10% in the MSP for lentils.
Similarly, the MSP for mustard and sunflower could see an increase ranging from 5% to 7%. The government is expected to grant approval for these MSP changes within the next week. It’s important to note that the Central Government determines the MSP based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).
