Kartik Purnima, an auspicious event in Hindu traditions, holds immense significance. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this sacred month witnesses devotees observing the Satyanarayan Vrat on both Chaturdashi Tithi, November 26, and the upcoming Purnima Tithi, November 27, marking the conclusion of Kartik.
The Purnima Tithi for Kartik Purnima 2023 spans from November 26, 2023, at 03:54 pm to November 27, 2023, at 2:45 pm. Astrologer Pandit Kalki Ram of Ayodhya, in an interview with News18, noted that Kartik’s holy month concludes on the Purnima Tithi. It’s believed that during this time, bathing in holy rivers on the full moon day of Kartik holds immense spiritual significance. This day marks Lord Vishnu’s incarnation as Matsya to protect himself from a flood, hence the sanctity attached to bathing in these rivers.
On November 27, 2023, Kartik Purnima will be celebrated, encouraging devotees to visit Ganga Ghats for a holy dip in the Ganga River. Devotees are advised to engage in various charitable acts to please the gods, emphasizing the auspicious time for worshipping Satyanarayan Vrat from 9:30 am to 10:49 am. Additionally, the Pradosh period from 5:24 pm to 7:05 pm is highlighted as an opportune time for donating lamps, while the holy time for bathing spans from 5:05 am to 5:58 am.
The belief in the cleansing power of holy river baths, especially in the Ganga, remains strong. It’s believed to absolve sins from past births, offering a chance for redemption. Kartik Purnima provides an opportunity for those unable to perform Kalpa Vaas during the Kartik month to seek blessings by bathing on this full moon day. Moreover, the day presents avenues to please Goddess Lakshmi through offerings of money, clothes, and warm clothing for the approaching winter, particularly on the banks of the Ganga. Many devotees also visit Lord Vishnu Temples to offer prayers, while lighting diyas on the ghats and presenting arghya to the moon.
