Political Journey of Bhajan Lal Sharma
Bhajan Lal Sharma, a prominent figure in Rajasthan’s political landscape, emerged victorious as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Sanganer Assembly seat for the first time, defeating his opponent Pushpendra Bharadwaj of the Congress by a margin of 48,000 votes in the recent elections. Sharma, aged 56, has been an integral part of the BJP state executive committee, having served as the Minister four times in the past.
Wealth Declaration: Close to 25 Million Rupees
According to the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission for the Assembly elections, Bhajan Lal Sharma declared assets amounting to approximately 25 million rupees. His assets include both immovable property worth around 10 million rupees and movable assets valued at nearly 4.4 million rupees.
Educational Background and Financial Sources
Sharma, a postgraduate, has a diversified source of income as outlined in his electoral affidavit. He earns from various avenues including rental income, bank interests, and a salary from the Railway Ministry. Additionally, he is the director of Shri Krishna Kanhaiya & Company.
Political Association and Early Career
Regarded as one of the prominent Brahmin faces of the BJP in Rajasthan, Sharma’s influence within the party structure has been acknowledged by political experts. He has held significant responsibilities within the organization, being consecutively appointed as the State General Secretary in four party organizations. His political journey commenced with the ABVP and progressed through Bhajayumo before aligning with the BJP.
Challenging Established Leaders
Notably, Sharma’s ascent to power was amidst formidable competition, including seasoned politicians like Vasundhara Raje, Kirori Lal Meena, and others vying for the Chief Ministerial position. Despite the significant claims made by various contenders, Vasundhara Raje’s proactive engagement in post-result meetings with elected MLAs reflected her strong bid for the CM position. However, despite the political pressure, the BJP leadership remained composed, resulting in a surprising turn of events akin to the political upheavals witnessed in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
This transformational shift in Rajasthan’s political scenario underscores the dynamic nature of power play and the emergence of new leaders like Bhajan Lal Sharma, signaling a potential reconfiguration in the state’s political landscape.
