OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has commenced its hiring spree in India. According to reports, the first employee of the company is Prajna Mishra, appointed as the Head of Government Relations. OpenAI has hired Prajna to lead Public Policy Affairs and Partnerships, as per a report. Before this, Prajna has worked with several major platforms, including Truecaller.
OpenAI’s Expansion in India
With the recent appointment of Prajna Mishra, OpenAI is set to kickstart its operations in India by the end of this month. However, neither OpenAI nor its representatives have commented on the hiring process in India. Similarly, Prajna Mishra has remained silent on this development.
Who is Prajna Mishra?
Prior to joining OpenAI, Prajna Mishra served as the Head of the Public Affairs Department at Truecaller. She has also worked with Meta Platforms, where she led a campaign against misinformation on WhatsApp in 2018. Prajna holds an MBA from the International Management Institute and a degree in Commerce from Delhi University. Additionally, she has a diploma from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
OpenAI’s Competitor in India
At present, OpenAI’s main competitor in India is Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. Google is developing an AI model specifically for the country. During his visit to India last year, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, emphasized the importance of supporting AI research in countries like India to enhance government services like healthcare. Altman also noted that India is the first country to adopt OpenAI’s generative AI service, ChatGPT.
With OpenAI’s foray into India’s burgeoning tech landscape, the company aims to leverage local talent and contribute to the advancement of AI research and development in the country.
