Whenever a person of Hindu religion has to marry for the second time, he has to divorce his first wife. In such cases, it is seen that most of the people convert to Islam and marry twice. Although many people think that in ancient times, multiple marriages were very common, then when and how did this change happen? So let us learn about this today.
When did the right to marriage change among Hindus?
There is a rule among Hindus to marry only one person. If a person marries twice then it is considered a crime. In such a situation, the question arises that since when did doing two or more marriages become a crime in Hindu religion? So let us tell you that before the year 1955, Hindus could do many marriages and it was not a crime, but in the year 1955, the Hindu Marriage Act came into force. Under which Hindus were allowed only one marriage. Whereas if a Hindu person wants to marry again, he will have to divorce his first partner. Only after this the person can marry again.
Is it necessary to marry according to customs?
Yes, under Section 7 of the Hindu Marriage Act, the marriage should take place as per Hindu customs. Section 5 states that marriage must take place according to the customs and rituals as per the provisions of Section 7. If its absence is seen in any marriage then such marriage will not be recognized as Hindu marriage in the eyes of law. At the same time, its registration after marriage is also very important under Section 8 of the Hindu Marriage Act. After this the marriage is recognized.
