Himachal Pradesh Tourism Guidelines: Every year lakhs of tourists visit Himachal Pradesh. Not only Indians but many tourists from abroad also come in this. Especially in the summer season, many people visit this hill state. Due to so many tourists coming, a lot of waste also accumulates in Himachal.
And in view of that, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has given a new decision. To promote sustainable tourism, the court has made garbage bags mandatory for tourists coming to the state. So that they can take their garbage back during their visit. Let’s know what else the Himachal Pradesh High Court has said in its decision.
Garbage bags are necessary for tourists coming to Himachal
The environment in the mountains is very good. But many tourists go there to visit, due to which a lot of waste accumulates and the environment starts getting polluted. Public interest litigations related to environmental concerns in Himachal Pradesh were heard in the Himachal Pradesh High Court. On which the bench of Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Sushil Kukreja of Himachal Pradesh High Court ordered to improve the system of environmental waste management in the state.
In the hearing held in the High Court on July 19, the bench has ordered the state that the government should focus on tourism like the states of Goa and Sikkim. The bench has said in the order, ‘The state should learn from the Sikkim government to ensure sustainable tourism and participation of all communities. It is mandatory for all tourists entering these states to carry a large garbage bag in their vehicle. Tour operators, travel agencies and drivers have also been given the responsibility of picking up garbage and sharing information about its disposal.’
Impose solid waste management charges on tourists
The Himachal Pradesh High Court, while hearing a case in March this year, had requested the state government to impose solid waste management charges on tourists visiting the state. Along with this, in the hearing held in July, the court has told the government that green tax is already being imposed on tourists in Kullu, Manali, Sissu and Koksar. But no audit of this tax is being done.
It is not clear from this whether waste management is being used properly or not. Along with this, the court has also asked the concerned officials to file an affidavit for green tax. So that it can be clear how the green tax is being used. The High Court has also asked to form a special task force for waste management in the state.
