Introduction
Born on February 21, 1964, in the Bagiya village of Farsabahar Development Block in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, Shri Vishnu Dev Sai serves as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. His father, Late Shri Ram Prasad Sai, and mother, Mrs. Jasmani Devi Sai, provided the nurturing foundation for his upbringing. On May 27, 1991, Shri Vishnu Dev Sai entered the bond of matrimony with Mrs. Kaushalya Devi Sai. The couple is blessed with one son and two daughters. Shri Vishnu Dev Sai pursued his higher secondary education from Kunkuri in Jashpur district.
Political Journey
Primarily hailing from an agricultural background, Shri Vishnu Dev Sai embarked on a long and illustrious political journey. He initiated his political career by serving as a member of the Bagiya Gram Panchayat in the undivided Madhya Pradesh in 1989. Subsequently, he ascended to the position of the unopposed Sarpanch of the Bagiya Gram Panchayat in 1990. In the same year, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Tapkara constituency for the first time. Shri Vishnu Dev Sai served as an MLA twice from Tapkara in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1990 to 1998.
Continuing his political ascent, Shri Vishnu Dev Sai was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Raigarh constituency four times consecutively since 1999. He served as a notable member representing the Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency in the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th Lok Sabhas in 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014 respectively. Notably, from May 27, 2014, until 2019, Shri Vishnu Dev Sai held the responsibility of the Ministry of Steel, Mines, Labor, and Employment as the Minister of State for the Government of India.
Family Legacy
While hailing from an agricultural lineage, Shri Vishnu Dev Sai drew significant inspiration and guidance from his family’s political legacy. His grandfather, Late Shri Budhanath Sai, served as a legislator from 1947 to 1952. Furthermore, his father, Late Shri Narhari Prasad Sai, and Late Shri Kedarnath Sai also contributed significantly to the realm of politics. Late Shri Narhari Prasad Sai was elected as a legislator and later as an MP from Lailunga and Bagicha respectively, while Late Shri Kedarnath Sai served as a legislator from Tapkara.
