The Prime Minister recounted an incident where a deepfake video portraying him engaged in the Garba dance surfaced online, despite his not having participated in such an activity since his school days. This revelation underscored the growing menace of manipulated visuals spreading across various platforms.
During the Diwali Milan program at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, PM Modi alerted journalists to the proliferation of similar misleading videos online. He urged the media to play an active role in educating the populace about the perils of consuming such deceptive content.
In the wake of AI advancements, PM Modi emphasized the ethical use of technology, stressing its responsible application. He emphasized the gravity of this issue, especially in light of deepfake videos surfacing featuring prominent personalities like actors Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, and Kajol. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar stressed the obligation of online platforms to curb the spread of misinformation, advocating for swift action in removing such content within specific timeframes as stipulated by the IT Rules 2021.
