The Finance Ministry of the Government of India has approved an officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) to change gender. After this landmark decision, Miss M Anusuya will be known as Mr. M Anukathir Surya in future.
IRS officer gets approval to change name and gender
According to the order of the Finance Ministry, IRS officer M Anusuya had filed a petition with the government for her gender change. She wanted to change from female to male. According to the report of CNBC TV-18, while deciding on this petition, the Finance Ministry has given this approval. This is the first time in the history of civil service that an officer has been given the freedom to change his name and gender.
Officials praised the government’s decision
Senior IRS officers have praised the government’s decision. They have said that through this decision, the government has introduced its progressive thinking. This will help in eliminating gender discrimination in India. The government has issued this order on July 9. According to the order, M Anusuya, posted as Joint Commissioner in Hyderabad, is allowed to change her name and gender. M Anusuya was born in 1988. In all government records, she will now be known as M Anukaathir Surya.
Finance Ministry sent information to all departments
The Finance Ministry has also sent information to the Chief Commissioner, Customs, Excise, Service Tax Appellate Tribunal and CBIC in this order. On this order, senior IRS officers say that this decision of the Finance Ministry can have a positive impact on the policies of other sectors as well. We are proud of our officers and the ministry.
