The latest iteration of the Suzuki Swift has been highly anticipated in India, and now its global model has achieved a 4-star NCAP crash test rating in Japan. The new generation Swift has already been available for sale in Japan, and this crash test rating is specifically for the Japanese-spec Swift. The car has scored 117.80 out of a total of 197 points.
Scoring Breakdown
The new Swift, available with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features in Japan, has contributed to its higher scoring. It scored 4 stars (driver’s seat) in the front full-wrap collision test, while achieving a full 5-star score in tests including side collision (driver’s seat), neck injury protection rear-end collision performance (driver’s seat), among others. In the offset frontal collision test (rear passenger seat), the car scored 3 stars, and it scored 4 stars in the passenger seat belt reminder (PSBR) test. However, these scores are for the Japanese-spec model, and there may be variations in components and features for the Indian-spec Swift.
More Features with the New Engine
It is said that the 4-star crash test rating for the Japanese market-spec Swift is quite impressive and bodes well for expectations in our market, albeit with possible specification differences. The Swift is set to launch next month in India, equipped with a new 1.2-liter petrol engine for enhanced mileage. Additionally, it will feature a new interior along with a plethora of features including 6 airbags and advanced connected car technology.
India-Specific New Gen Swift
The new generation Swift is set to launch in India in the coming days, with more information about the Indian-spec model expected to surface around its India launch date, slated for May 2024. If the car is submitted for testing, the crash test in India could be conducted through the Bharat NCAP.
