Now the Ministry of Labor and Employment said on Wednesday that it has sought a detailed report from the Labor Department of Tamil Nadu on this issue. Section 5 of the Equal Remuneration Act 1976 was cited
The Ministry of Labor said in a statement that Section 5 of the Equal Remuneration Act 1976 clearly states that no discrimination should be made while recruiting male and female workers. It said that since the state government is the appropriate authority for enforcement and administration of the provisions of the Act, a report has been sought from it. Also, it said that the office of the Regional Chief Labour Commissioner has also been directed to submit the report to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has taken cognizance of media reports stating that married women are not being allowed to work at the Foxconn India Apple iPhone plant. Foxconn India is the Indian subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics company Foxconn. It is among the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturing companies. Foxconn India is a major supplier of Apple products including iPhone, iPad, and other electronic devices. Foxconn has several factories in India, including plants located in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
