Women wrestlers in India have achieved great heights today with their hard work, but do you know about India’s first female wrestler? Today i.e. on 4th May 2024, Google has created a doodle remembering India’s first female wrestler Hamida Banu. Hamida was that female wrestler, whom even no male wrestler could ever defeat.
Hamida Banu was the most popular female wrestler of the 1940-50s. A famous thing about her is that she had placed a condition that she would marry whoever defeated her in a wrestling match, but that did not happen. Sometimes it used to happen that those who fought with her would withdraw from the match on some pretext or the other, and sometimes Hamida would defeat all those wrestlers. Hamida’s diet also became a topic of great discussion.
Diet was a topic of great discussion
According to media reports, Hamida’s height was 5 feet 3 inches and her weight was 108 kg. His daily diet included 5.5 liters of milk, 2.8 liters of soup, 1.8 liters of fruit juice, one desi chicken, one kilo of mutton, 1 kilo of almonds, half a kilo of ghee, 6 eggs and two plates of biryani. Along with this, Hamida used to sleep for 9 hours and exercise for 6 hours. During the rest of the time, Hamida used to eat.
After the success in India, Hamida decided that she would go to Europe and do wrestling, but this was not possible. After this Banu suddenly disappeared from the world of wrestling. Regarding this, it is said that Hamida’s coach Salam Pehalwan did not like the wrestler’s decision to go to Europe.
