On 20 July 1969, such a history was created which no one in the world had imagined. On this day, man set foot on the moon for the first time and the notion that no one can reach the moon was broken.
When America announced on 16 July 1969 that its Mission Moon Apollo-11 spacecraft has taken off with three astronauts. The target now is to land on the moon, no one in the world believed it. Some laughed and some got scared that if man reaches the moon, then who knows what doomsday will come. Gods will get angry. However, there was also a strange excitement on Earth that now no one knows what is going to happen….then on 20 July 1969, history was created.
Then almost the whole world was awake. In some part of the world it was day and in some it was night. Everyone was glued to the TV and radio. The American Apollo-11 aircraft had landed on the moon. Then two American astronauts came out of it one by one. They set foot on the moon for the first time.
On July 16, 1969, NASA’s Apollo-11 mission took off from Kennedy Space Center. Armstrong was the commander of the mission. The Moon Mission reached the moon’s orbit on July 19, covering a distance of 2,40,000 miles in 76 hours.
On July 20, 1969, at exactly 4:18 pm, Apollo’s Eagle landed on the moon’s surface. The place where the landing took place was named Sea of Tranquility. Armstrong immediately sent a message to the Mission Control in Texas that ‘Eagle has landed’.
Five hours later, he set foot on the moon
About five hours later, at 10:39 p.m., Armstrong opened the door of the Eagle and started descending on the moon’s surface with the help of a ladder. A TV camera recorded this entire scene, which was seen by more than 1 crore people on Earth. At 10:56 p.m. Armstrong said those words which became history:
This small step by a man is a big leap for humanity.
They took pictures and then returned to the plane
At 11:11 p.m. Aldrin also landed on the surface of the moon and together they took many pictures on the moon, planted the American flag there, did some simple scientific tests and also talked to the then American President Nixon. Both were back inside Eagle at 1:11 a.m. on 21st July. Both of them slept well and at 1:54 p.m. Eagle returned to connect with Command Module Columbia.
Then the journey back to Earth began
Eagle connected with Columbia orbiting the moon at 5:35 p.m. and on 22nd July at 12:56 a.m. Apollo 11 mission started its return journey towards Earth. On 24th July at 12:51 p.m. But the Apollo 11 mission returned successfully in the Pacific Ocean. After this, there were five more missions of man landing on the moon. In 1972, Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt were the last people to set foot on the moon. More than 100 billion dollars were spent on all the Apollo missions as per today’s standards.
Even today many things are said about that incident. For example, when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed there, what smell did they get from the soil there. What were their first words there. For how many hours did they stay there. Not only this, what more than 100 things did they leave there while returning.
Interesting facts related to the mission
– The American flag that Neil Armstrong planted on the surface of the moon fell in a short while. Because it was difficult for it to survive in the difficult conditions there.
– When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon, the first thing they ate was a communion wafer.
These were the first words spoken after reaching the moon
The first words spoken after reaching the moon later became very popular all over the world. The first two words spoken by Buzz Aldrin were, ‘Contact Light’.
