Himachal Pradesh News: Regarding contesting elections from Mandi, a former government employee said- ‘I had presented the ‘No Dues’ certificate received from the department along with my nomination papers in front of the Election Officer. The Election Officer did not accept it and from here the matter went out of his hands, he missed the opportunity he got after five years.
Himachal Pradesh High Court: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut on a petition filed by a resident of Kinnaur and sought a reply. In fact, in a petition requesting to cancel the election of MP Kangana from Mandi, it has been argued that the petitioner’s nomination papers to contest the election from this Lok Sabha seat were allegedly rejected wrongly. Issuing the notice, Justice Jyotsna Rewal directed Ranaut to file a reply by August 21.
14 May then 4 June now 21 August…..
Ranaut had won the Mandi Lok Sabha seat by defeating her nearest rival Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh by a margin of 74,755 votes. She got 5,37,002 votes against Singh’s 4,62,267 votes. Seeking cancellation of Ranaut’s election, petitioner Layak Ram Negi said that his nomination papers were wrongly cancelled by the Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner, Mandi) and he has also been made a party.
If the matter of no dues had not been fixed, would Negi have won?
Negi, a former employee of the forest department, said that he got premature retirement and submitted a ‘no-dues’ certificate from the department along with the nomination papers before the election officer. However, he was given a day’s time to submit ‘no dues certificates’ from the electricity, water and telephone departments and even when he submitted them, the election officer did not accept them and cancelled the nomination papers. He argued that if his papers were accepted, he could have won the election and said that Kangana’s election should be cancelled.
Negi said that he had been wanting to contest the election for a long time, this was a big opportunity after five years which he missed.
